Tessa’s Weekly Picks – 3D Printed Watch Bands

Tessa Blokland

Two weeks ago I wrote about 3D printed smartphone cases, this week I would like to take a look at my watch – matching smartphone and watch perhaps? Probably not, but let’s see what is available as 3D printed watch bands.

What about this 3D printed wristband for an iPod Nano? The design is from 2012 from Finnish designer Janne Kyttanen. I like the bright yellow color which makes it an absolute eye-catching object.

I also like the 3D printed watch bands from Alan Nguyen for the brand Nooka in collaboration with 3D Systems. The Wave band, as you can imagine, is inspired by the movement of sound.

The 3D printed Aurora Watch Band is part of the Freshfiber collection. The lines are inspired by the Northern Lights which sweep the sky.

The last example is the 3D printed titanium watch band from brand Uniform Wares in collaboration with manufacturer Betatype. I love this one! The watchband is 3D printed out of titanium, it is lightweight and the woven mesh feels like it is made out of textile. The watchband also integrates a new type of clasp design that interlocks with the weave of the strap (see top image), which would not be possible to manufacture with traditional manufacturing processes.
